Terms of Use
These Terms of Use ("Terms") constitute a legally binding agreement between you ("User", "Rider", or "Driver") and Joiin Group (Pty) Ltd ("Joiin", "we", "us", or "our"). By downloading, registering, or using the Joiin platform, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, you must not use Joiin.
1. Nature of the Platform
Joiin is a technology platform that connects verified working professionals to arrange voluntary, cost-sharing commutes. Joiin is not a transportation company, e-hailing service, metered taxi service, or common carrier. Joiin does not employ drivers, own vehicles, or provide transport. All ride arrangements are made directly between users on a voluntary basis. Joiin's role is limited to facilitating connections and processing payments between users.
By using Joiin, you acknowledge that you understand this distinction and that Joiin bears no liability for the conduct, actions, or omissions of any user during or in connection with a ride.
2. Eligibility and Account Registration
To use Joiin you must:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Be employed at or associated with a verified company
- Register with accurate personal details including your name, mobile number, and work email address
- Complete the required identity verification steps
- Maintain a valid payment method on your account
You may only hold one Joiin account. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account and must keep your login credentials confidential. Joiin reserves the right to suspend or terminate any account that violates these Terms.
3. Verification
All users are required to complete a multi-step verification process before accessing certain features:
- Work email verification via one-time PIN sent to your work email address
- South African ID verification to confirm your identity
- Biometric face verification processed via AWS Rekognition
Drivers must additionally complete:
- Vehicle registration and licence disc verification
- Banking details verification via Peach Payments
Joiin reserves the right to reject any verification submission and to revoke verified status at any time if we reasonably suspect fraud, misrepresentation, or a breach of these Terms.
4. Route Contributions and Subscriptions
Riders pay a route contribution, a commuter share of the Driver's fuel and vehicle running costs, calculated at the SARS rate per kilometre for the shared route. This contribution is a reimbursement to the Driver and is not payment for a transport service. Joiin earns no commission, service fee, or per-trip markup from route contribution payments.
Joiin's revenue comes exclusively from subscription plans. New users receive a 1-month free trial. Thereafter, a monthly subscription is required: Solo at R89/month (individual commuter) or Group at R199/month (up to 6 members). The first 100 verified drivers receive 3 months free under the founding-driver offer. Subscriptions renew monthly until cancelled. Users may cancel at any time and retain access until the end of the current billing period.
All payments are processed through Peach Payments. Joiin does not store full card details on its own servers.
5. Fuel Recovery
Drivers accumulate fuel recovery through completed rides. Fuel recovery is tracked in the driver's earnings ledger within the app. Drivers may redeem it for fuel vouchers at participating merchants including Sasol, Engen, and Total, subject to a minimum redemption amount of R50 and a maximum of R5 000 per request.
Fuel recovery has no cash value and cannot be transferred, sold, or exchanged outside the Joiin platform. Joiin reserves the right to adjust, suspend, or discontinue the fuel recovery programme at any time with reasonable notice.
6. Vehicle Requirements
Drivers may only use vehicles that they personally own. The following are strictly prohibited:
- Rental or leased vehicles
- Company-owned vehicles
- Commercially registered or metered vehicles
Vehicles must be roadworthy, fully licensed, and covered by valid motor vehicle insurance. Joiin may remove any vehicle from the platform that does not meet these requirements.
7. User Conduct
You agree not to use Joiin to:
- Provide commercial or for-profit transport services
- Harass, threaten, or discriminate against other users
- Submit false, fraudulent, or misleading information
- Circumvent or tamper with the platform's verification or payment systems
- Create multiple accounts or share your account with another person
8. In-App Communication
Joiin provides real-time in-app messaging between Drivers and Riders during active trips. All communication must remain professional and respectful. Joiin may monitor or review messages for safety and compliance purposes.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by South African law, Joiin is not liable for any loss, injury, damage, or harm arising from or in connection with a ride arranged through the platform, including but not limited to road accidents, personal injury, property damage, or the conduct of any user.
Joiin does not guarantee the availability, accuracy, or reliability of the platform at all times. The platform is provided on an "as is" basis.
10. Amendments and Termination
Joiin may update these Terms at any time. Material changes will be communicated via the app or email. Continued use of the platform after notice constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. Joiin may suspend or terminate your access at any time for breach of these Terms or for any other reason at Joiin's discretion.
11. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of Joiin will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the South African courts.
